IAM Offers Car Insurance Tips

April 4, 2012

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) are urging drivers to make sure they make full use of their mirrors whilst driving, especially when undertaking manoeuvres on the road to help avoid accidents and reduce the number of car insurance claims.

Speaking on behalf of IAM, Simon Elstow - head of training for the group, has also issued advice on changing lanes and the importance of mirrors.

Mr Elstow commented on the best method for changing lanes whilst on a motorway or dual-carriageway:

"Keep an eye on your mirrors and keep a 360 degree awareness of the traffic around you to make changing lanes easier, but always double check before making the manoeuvre."

He added that motorists should keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and make sure that there is sufficient space in the new lane before moving into it. He went on to highlight the importance of signalling early to give other drivers enough time to react.

By driving with due care and attention motorists can help to reduce the chances of accidents and claiming on their car insurance as a consequence.
