Older Drivers Aren’t More Dangerous Claim Medical Experts

A recent report by the Canadian Medical Association has indicated that older drivers are more likely to die in an accident due to the reduced likelihood of surviving a serious injury, not due to the fact that they are dangerous motorists.
However older drivers tend to do the majority of their driving in built-up areas, where there is a higher risk of accidents. This may be another reason why car insurance for older drivers tends to be high.
Professor Emeritus of the Depart of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto, Dr Ezra Hauer, commented:
"In Canada more than four fifths of those killed in accidents involving motorists aged 85 or older are the drivers themselves."
Dr Hauer added that frailty of older drivers should not be confused with the ability to drive safely.
