Fuel sales over Easter saw a drop of almost a third compared to the same time last year, according to the Retail Motor Industry (RMI).
The report by the RMI suggests that sales of unleaded petrol over the four day Easter break were down by almost 30% when compared to a year ago. Diesel sales are thought to have dropped by 2.9%.
It's believed that the drop in fuel sales is due to the advice given by the UK Government to stockpile petrol and diesel in case a fuel tanker strike took place. Apparently this left many eager car insurance holders with more fuel than they needed.
In spite of this it's also been suggested that the poor weather over this period may have also contributed to the drop in fuel sales.
