Young Drivers Warned of iPod Dangers

New research by the Journal of the Human and Ergonomics Society suggests that using an iPod whilst driving is riskier than listening to the radio.
The researchers used a driving simulator to assess reactions of 50 young drivers aged between 18 and 25 while using iPods and radios at the wheel.
It's believed that the use of MP3 players whilst driving could lead to accidents and an increase in young driver insurance claims.
Commenting on the outcome the experts stated:
"A simple task of selecting a song from a list can seduce you into looking away from the road longer than you might have intended, and long looks away from the road can kill."
Whilst the majority of new cars have MP3 connections and many newer devices have larger screens it's believed that this does not lessen the risk of distraction at the wheel.
Young drivers have been urged to make sure that they remain focused at all times on the road ahead and other road users. Not only will this keep themselves and others safe on the road but it will reduce the likelihood of claiming on their young drivers insurance.
