Car Manufacturing on the Increase

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have released figures that show a 22% increase in car manufacture in July year-on-year.

The report by the SMMT shows that 119,998 vehicles were built in the UK last month, making it the 13th consecutive month to see an increase in production.

As a result of this increase car insurance companies are likely to see an increase in applications for insurance policies.

The figures also showed that, between January and the end of last month, a total of 875,998 cars were built by manufacturers - a 15% increase on last year.

Commenting on the figures, Chief Executive for SMMT, Paul Everitt stated that car manufacturing has continued to grow:

"While uncertainty in Europe remains a challenge, the £6 billion investment committed to the UK in the last two years delivers long–term growth opportunities and the latest figures show that our products have enormous global appeal."

A spokesperson for the union Unite added that "the month-on-month increase in output is proof that investment works and that, when skilled UK manufacturing workers get the opportunity, they deliver world-class products."
