With the 1st September looming ahead drivers are being warned to drive with care as a recent study by a well known insurance firm has pinpointed it as being the most dangerous day of the year to drive.
The research revealed that 40% more accidents than average occurred on September 1st last year since many motorists choose this day to return from their summer holidays.
The study also showed that in the previous two years the rate was a whopping 30% higher than the average during the summer holidays.
Even more accidents are expected this year, however, since the 1st September falls on a Saturday. Consequently drivers are being warned to drive with extra care and attention if they choose to take to the road on this date.
A spokesperson for the company stated:
"Every year we see a surge of accidents at this time of year as people head back after the August bank holiday, or return home after their summer holidays.”
They added that the firm tends to see an increasing number of accidents on British roads following the August bank holiday weekend.
Consequently drivers are advised to take more care when driving and to ensure that they plan the journey well in advance to decrease stress since this is can lead to an increase in accidents and telematics car insurance claims as a result.
Motorists are also recommended to give themselves plenty of time, take breaks on long journeys and check traffic information to ensure they avoid routes prone to congestion.
