Car Clamp Bandits Jailed
February 28, 2012
Five members of a gang of illegal car clampers have been jailed for defrauding innocent car insurance customers in the West Midlands. Each member of the gang received a jail sentence between 12 - 32 months.
The leader of the gang operated Midland Parking Contracts in Redditch - through which he exploited the local community by illegally clamping cars and demanding payments from innocent car insurance holders.
Each of the 5 defendants pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy to defraud when the case convened in January, earlier this year.
The Judge presiding over the case commented that the gang had abused public trust for their own material gain.
He added that whilst illegal parking can cause major problems to traders and other people the "use of enforcement measures not to provide a service to help traders and others suffering from illegally parked cars, but to use the company as a vehicle to obtain money dishonestly from the public by blatant abuse of authority and power" is wholly wrong.
