It's actually cheaper to park a light aircraft for a day at some airports around the UK than it is to park a car, according to one national newspaper.
The study, undertaken by the Independent, has revealed that a driver who leaves their car at Manchester airport would face costs of £35 per day. However, it costs a mere £21 per day to store a six-seater plane, in comparison.
In addition to this John Lennon Airport in Liverpool will charge motorists almost £40 per day to park there. A shocking contrast to the £10.72 they charge for a light aircraft!
The most expensive, but probably the least surprising is Heathrow Terminal 5 - who charges it's customers £51.80 per day to park there. According to the Independent this is around the same price as an off-peak flight to Aberdeen.
Commenting on behalf of Manchester Airport, Russell Craig, head of communications stated:
"Years ago airports made all their money from the planes. Now at Manchester, aviation income makes up less than half of our revenues. To be able to keep investing, you've got to find new revenue streams and some of that is car parking."
Mr Craig advises car insurance holders looking to take a flight and park their car to pre-book as a way of saving money… hardly helpful for those who booked last minute.
If possible we advise leaving the car at home to avoid the exorbitant costs imposed by Airports.
