A significant number of Mumsnet users believe that car salesmen who work in dealerships are dishonest.
According to the survey carried out by Mumsnet 46% of visitors to the website hold the opinion that car salesmen are largely dishonest. In addition to this a mere 25% of respondents felt that advice given by dealers was reliable.
As a result the majority (77%) of car insurance holders looked to friends and family for advice when buying a car. Alternative trusted sources tend to be magazine or online car reviews.
The report went on to reveal that almost 90% of visitors look to alter their choices in cars as changes in their family occurred.
The company have recently joined forces with What Car? to provide parents with reviews of cars and motoring advice.
Commenting on behalf of Mumsnet, spokeswoman Justine Roberts stated:
"80 per cent of our users seek advice or read reviews on Mumsnet when they are planning to buy a child-related product, and judging from the number of car discussions on the site there’s a clear need for similar advice when it comes to cars."
