Research carried out by an insurance firm has revealed that many office workers are turning to carpooling thanks to the rising cost of car insurance and fuel.
The research showed that London came out on top of the firm's carpooling league table, with over 20% of employees sharing the drive to work with fellow colleagues.
However, in contrast only 15% of drivers in Leeds tooks to this idea.
The study also revealed that 60% of drivers complain that they have less disposable income as a result of fuel and car insurance increases, however, only 43% receive money from giving colleagues a lift into work.
A spokesman for the company said that people all over the UK are looking for ways to save money. He added that carpooling is not only a way of helping saving money on fuel and car insurance but can also have a benefit on the environment since there are fewer cars on the road. He added:
"With fuel costs continuing to rise, and increasing congestion at peak times, carpooling is not only an excellent way of limiting costs but also eases the pressure on our roads."
