Research by car rental company, WhipCar.com has revealed that a mere 8% of car insurance holders now consider their car to be a prized posession. However, two thirds of motorists see a car is merely a means of getting about.
Commenting on this, Vinay Gupta - Co-Founder of WhipCar.com said:
“People used to love getting behind the wheel and just going for a drive. These days, trips are more carefully considered. Increasing costs have taken some of the pleasure out of driving and, as people combine trips to save on petrol, more and more cars sit unused for extended periods.”
The company believes that this is largely due to the high cost of fuel, along with car insurance, road tax and car maintenance costs - contributing to the overall expense of owning a car.
In addition to this WhipCar also referred to another recent survey that suggested that as many as 38% of drivers will give up driving within a year should fuel prices continue to increase.
With attitudes towards driving changing, largely thanks to the increases in the cost of petrol and diesel, the potential for car rental – to borrow a car when it’s needed appears to be steadily growing.
