A car insurance price comparison website has revealed that back seat drivers are playing a part in accident claims.
The study showed that the main bugbear of drivers is passengers telling them how they should be driving. The investigation suggested that this is leading to accidents and car insurance claims - costing British motorists a total of £9million.
The report showed that a fifth of drivers have spent up to £500 to carry out car repairs following accidents that they blame on back seat drivers.
The study went on to show that 45% of road users cite their partners as the worst passengers - in fact husbands and boyfriends came out as the worst offenders, however, parents in the car came a close second.
A spokesman for the organisation commented:
"Having other people in the car can distract us from the road and lead to accidents which in turn increases the cost of our car insurance policies."
He added that the increasing price of motoring, including fuel prices, means that motorists need to be doing all they can to keep costs to a minimum.
