A road in Camden, London has accumulated over £1 million in parking fines revenue in a single year.
The road is thought to top an AA list of 10 London roads that collectively accumulated almost £7 million in penalties.
It was reported that the road, known as Southampton Row, saw almost 20,000 tickets handed out to car insurance holders over 2011. This netted the local council almost £2 million in fine revenue.
A representative from Camden Council commented:
"Southampton Row is a busy central London road with high volumes of traffic."
They added that "several major bus routes run along the road, so bus lanes must be kept clear at all times to prevent buses being delayed."
The spokesperson went on to add that car insurance holders should be following traffic regulations so that traffic can continue to move freely and safely through the streets.
The money raised from penalty charge notices are to be re-invested into transport services for Londoners.
