Scottish Drink-Driver Numbers Drop

June 15, 2012

The number of people caught drink-driving has dropped by around 5% since last year, according to a report by the Association of Police Officers in Scotland (Acpos).

Acpos runs a drink-driving campaign every year with the latest results from this summer highlighting an improvement on last year's results.

In total 111 car insurance policyholders were caught driving whilst over the acceptable limit. In addition 5 drivers were unfit to drive due to drug use.

Strathclyde residents were reportedly the worst offenders with 40% of the 111 drivers being pulled over.

Commenting on the campaign, Chief Superintendent Derek Robertson said:

"The figures are marginally down on this time last year and that is refreshing to note. We welcome that trend and it is good to see that the number of people caught for driving whilst unfit through drugs has decreased by 60%."
