Keep Our Roads Clear Of Litter

June 22, 2012

The Highways Agency is urging motorists to make sure they have plastic bags to-hand to place litter in.

Mike Penning, the roads minister is calling for drivers to make more of an effort to prevent litter cluttering roads prior to the start of the Olympic Games.

The Highways Agency released a statement saying the rubbish found on motorways creates a dangerous environment for its workers. Adding that a quarter of a million bags of the stuff is found on UK motorways annually.

Mr Penning commented:

"In the build up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games I’m reminding everyone to follow the simple ‘Bag it, Bin it!’ message."

He went on to state that it's an absolute disgrace that around £10 million is shelled out annually as a result of car insurance holders throwing litter from the moving vehicle rather than disposing of it in the right way.
