A recent study by Auto Trader has revealed that almost three quarters of car insurance holders will look at fuel economic vehicles as a way of slashing costs.
The report also indicated that low emission is increasingly becoming a priority amongst British motorists. The report showed that 53% now see low emissions as a priority when buying.
The report went on to show that respondents aged over 65 were the most concerned about fuel economy with over 60% claiming that it was a priority when they bought their current vehicle. In addition to this 82% claimed that it will be a priority when they buy their next car.
Commenting on the outcome of the report, group director for Auto Trader, Nathan Coe stated:
"It’s not just today’s concerns about the availability of fuel that is driving motorists to prioritise fuel economy when choosing a new car.
"Increases in fuel prices and the growing pressure on family budgets over the past three years are all having an impact. The survey also reveals that the number of motorists who consider low emission to be a priority has almost doubled and we expect that number to continue to increase in the next few years."
The survey went on to highlight a number of other interesting areas - most notably that that increasing numbers of drivers are turning to diesel cars over petrol powered vehicles. Of those who switched to diesel cars 58% claim that the main reason was running costs.
