Are Motorists Concentrating At The Wheel?
March 9, 2012
A recent report by Fly Research has suggested that motorists are putting their car insurance at risk as they are losing concentration, on average, within 11 minutes of driving.
The real worry is that this could lead to an increase in accidents on UK roads, with 25% of motorists admitting to boredom whilst driving and 22% admitting that they go into "auto-pilot".
As a result the lack of mental stimulations means that one in eight drivers end-up in an accident or, at the very least, a near-miss.
This serves to highlight the importance of paying attention whilst on the road as an accident not only puts the motorist's car insurance NCD at risk but it could also result in injuries or fatalities.
The article by the Telegraph suggested that recent advances in technology have “revolutionised” the way people keep their minds active and it is possible that technology withdrawal kicks-in whilst driving. In spite of this it is very important for all drivers to focus on the drive and “not let technology withdrawal systems get the better of them whilst driving.”
