MOT Repair Costs Double

March 14, 2012

New figures by a study undertaken by Halfords Autocentres suggest that car insurance policy holders are being forced to pay out an average of £143 in repair costs if their car fails the MOT.

The study showed that repairing a car now costs almost double the average figure of £82 calculated a mere 18 months ago. Unfortunately the rising cost of repairs will probably leave motorists with less extra cash for other motoring essentials - including car insurance and road tax.

Drivers have been urged to ensure that their vehicles are prepared for their MOT, especially since the research also indicated that 40% of cars fail their annual MOT test.

The report went on to show that 23% of car owners do not prepare their vehicle for the test and simply 'cross their fingers' and hope for the best.

Rory Carlin, marketing director for Halfords Autocentres, suggested that the majority of failures arise as a result of not checking simple things that a standard service would take care of.

Mr Carlin added:

"Problems that could have been sorted out relatively cheaply beforehand can become bigger and much more expensive problems if they are not attended to."
