Nissan Look To Revive Datsun

March 14, 2012

According to rumours in the motor industry the Datsun name could make a comeback as part of Nissan's low-budget car range.

With the cost of fuel, road tax and car insurance on the increase Nissan believe that low-budget vehicles will become a key market in the future.

Carlos Ghosn, Renault-Nissan boss, commented:

"We're losing our shirt in the premium market at the moment, but are profitable further down the range."

Ghosn added:

"Whereas most car companies have the opposite problem."

Datsun was first introduced in the early 1930s but then phased out by Nissan back in the mid-80s after decades of being associated with small, cost effective sporty cars.

During the height of Datsun's popularity some of the smaller budget models proved very popular with the public and Nissan believe that a Datsun revival could help boost their popularity as a global car manufacturer as well as potentially bring down the cost of car insurance for their buyers.
