Parking Fine Paid With 29 cheques
March 14, 2012
In a bizarre state of affairs a female car insurance policy holder paid her £60 fine for parking in a disabled bay with 29 individual cheques at varying amounts – from £1.00 - £3.50.
The lady's car was caught in Castlepoint car park in Bournemouth parked in a disabled bay mid-February. The vehicle was spotted by Devere Parking Services and incurred an initial fine of £100. However, the fine could be reduced to £60 if the fine was paid within 10 days.
The boss of Devere, Steven Williams commented:
"We've never had anything like this before in five years we've been at Castlepoint."
Mr Williams added that the lady in question must have been very annoyed to have taken the time to fill out 29 separate cheques as this was clearly done as a way of protest, however, she still parked in a disabled parking spot without a disability badge displayed on her car's windscreen.
The company have decided to cash one cheque to start with to make sure it clears as there is a £4 charge for every cheque that bounces.
