Motorists Urged To Run Safety Checks

March 23, 2012

A road rescue organisation are urging car insurance policy holders to carry out checks to ensure that their cars are road-worthy before getting behind the wheel.

A study undertaken by Britannia Rescue revealed that one in five UK drivers have driven without a valid MOT certificate, causing serious concern as the vehicles are not legally allowed on the road without one.

A spokesperson for the firm, Vanessa Chance, has said that there are a number of things car insurance customers can do to ensure that their car is roadworthy - including checking brake lights, headlights.

Commenting for the firm Peter Horton, Managing Director also stated:

"At a time when money is tight and fuel prices are on the increase, motorists are looking to save cash where they can. Sacrificing car maintenance is a false economy, which not only increases the risk of breaking down but also puts those travelling in the car in unnecessary danger."

Horton added that whilst everyone needs to tighten their belts in the tough economy scrimping on road safety is not the place to start.
