Fifty Percent Of British Motorists Unable To Change Tyre

Whilst many motorists carry a spare wheel in the event of a flat-tyre around 50% of British drivers would not be able to change their tyre anyway, according to a recent report by Kwik Fit.
Kwik Fit undertook a survey of 2,027 car insurance holders around the UK, revealing some worrying results. The report showed that 36% have a spare tyre and the equipment to change it but they wouldn't know how to if the need arose.
The report also revealed that 10% carry a spare tyre but no tyre changing equipment and 6% had no equipment, no tyre and no knowledge on how to change it.
Commenting on behalf of Kwik Fit, the communications director, Roger Griggs stated:
"It is worrying how many drivers don’t know what provision they have for a puncture, but it’s even more of a concern to see how many have absolutely nothing in their car to deal with a deflated tyre."
He added: "There are clearly gaps in knowledge around how to change a tyre, and indeed many cars are missing tools. Changing a wheel is a skill that all drivers should have, and if anyone isn't confident enough to do so they can visit their local Kwik Fit centre and the team will happily walk them through it."
