Petrol Prices Fuels The Supermarket War

The fuel price war continues between the UK's major supermarkets, after Sainsburys announced a further 3p per litre cut to the price of their petrol and diesel.
The move to cut fuel further has come following the AA's slamming of supermarkets and oil magnates for short-changing british motorists by failing to pass on falls in global petrol costs.
Following this fall the AA believe that prices should be down by as much as 5pence per litre htis week.
Commenting on the cuts in fuel prices, head of fuel at Sainsburys, Richard Crampton said:
“We know that fuel continues to be a big part of many household budgets and we are committed to helping our customers cut down on cost whenever we can."
He went on to add that since wholesale fuel prices have dropped across Europe Sainsburys can pass these savings on to car insurance policy holders.
In spite of these attempts by supermarkets to slash their prices, the AA have said that fuel prices have come down twice as quickly in mainland Europe. It would appear that supermarkets and other fuel providers still have a long way to reduce the cost of petrol and diesel.
