UK drivers are skimping on crucial car maintenance or sacrificing their lifestyle to keep their cars on the road, according to Halfords.
A report by motoring experts - Halfords has revealed that a whopping 84% of drivers see their cars as essential for everyday living. Whether they use them to commute to work, take the kids to school or simply to do the crucial grocery shop once or twice a week.
As a result many are delaying critical car maintenance. Commenting on this Paul McClenaghan, Halfords Commercial Director said:
"By choosing to ignore obvious faults or manufacturers' advice, drivers are only delaying the inevitable and likely to increase the eventual cost when something fails - as well as potentially putting both themselves and other road users at risk."
A large proportion of the blame is levelled at the cost of fuel prices and rising car insurance premiums, however, with a lack in affordable public transport or decent alternatives to the car many are left with little choice.
As a result the likes of Fair Fuel UK are calling on the Government to do more to reduce the cost of fuel and reduce the burden on motorists around the country.
On a more positive note 92% of motorists have admitted to braking less harshly and accelerating slower to reduce fuel costs and the likelihood of car insurance claims.
