A recent poll has revealed that Stonehenge is by far the most distracting roadside view in the UK, with more than 25% of motorists admitting to nearly crashing as a result of looking at the landmark.
The survey conducted by OnePoll when on to show that Glencoe, Cheddar Gorge, the Angel of the North and the Blackpool Tower were other distracting sights when driving on UK roads.
The research suggests that a spectacular site can lure a driver into looking at it three times whilst driving past it. The average time per view is 3.74 seconds - equating to over 11 seconds over 200 metres without focusing on the drive.
As a result drivers are at more risk of accident - leading to an increase in claims on their car insurance. In fact the study shows that 34% of drivers have had a minor accident as a result of looking at an amazing view or sight.
When driving past an incredible sight - such as Stonehenge or Glencoe we recommend stopping in a safe place and getting out to look - if you have time. That way you can reduce the likelihood of an accident whilst driving.
