Data Use

Fair Pay Insurance works with TomTom to process and store customer data however, this is as beneficial to you as it is to us.

The data processed and stored is used to essentially help us and you keep track of personal details as well as your vehicle.

How The Data Is Stored

The information stored includes:

Customer name and address
Vehicle licence plate
Email address

However, we also install a TomTom LINK black box into your car. This is used to report information about your vehicle usage to TomTom's WebFleet service - basically a tool you can use to monitor your driving and vehicle usage with. The following information is stored:

Vehicle location, speed and direction
Location, time and duration of stops
Distance travelled
Information about acceleration, braking and cornering
Location of possible accidents

How The Data Is Used

The data is used by a number of different parties - including you, the customer.

How You Use The Data

The data is used by you - the customer to gain insight into how your car has been used. Access to this information is provided to you via a password protected WebFleet interface from TomTom (on your tablet, PC or smartphone) as well as a customer Dashboard supplied by Fair Pay Insurance.

Summary data can also be accessed by you via the TomTom navigation device that's installed in your car... real-time data that you can access instantly whilst on the move!

How The Insurer Uses The Data

The insurance firm underwriting your car insurance will need access to the data to check the following:

1. To assess the risk profile based on vehicle usage (including distance travelled, time of use, acceleration, braking, cornering behaviour, speed compared to road speed limit).

2. To check vehicle status and location in the case of a possible accident and to coordinate recovery / emergency actions if needed.

3. To check the location of the vehicle in the event of a reported theft.

How Fair Pay Insurance Uses The Data

Fair Pay will use the data to:

1. To determine the time of day the car is being used.

2. To help troubleshoot technical problems.

How TomTom Uses The Data

TomTom will use the data to:

1. Help troubleshoot technical problems.

2. Anonymised data (GPS location and speed) is used for real time traffic detection and for improving the digital map data.

Please note: None of your personal data will be provided or sold to third parties, unless required by law.

Data Retention

TomTom will store personal data for the duration of the car insurance contract. When Fair Pay Insurance indicates a termination of contract TomTom will deactivate the LINK so that no further personal data is collected. Within 3 months of the contract termination TomTom will remove the personal data from their database or make it anonymous.
